Tapping Rule 7-2-10
Language has been added to the NFHS track
and field rule book that defines the act
of pushing a vaulter on his/her back at take-off in the pole vault during
warm-ups or in
competition as an illegal act. The interpretation held by the Association is
contact
made by an individual to a vaulter attempting a vault is certainly a violation
of Rule 7-2-
10. If contact is made in an effort to secure a vaulter upon returning to the
runway
after the testing of a pole, etc., that contact is legal.
Example: This is a classic example of "tapping" that fills all the requirements stated in the NFHS rule.
