The Bubka vault model for idiots (If you want to emulate a vault then these are the things you should emulate)

Starts his plant on the left stride before the take-off left. (3 step plant)  When he starts, the plant, the pole is horizontal.
Has his right hand to the top of his head when his right foot (step before take-off) strikes.  He's also driving his right hand up along his body to get it fully extended at take-off.  He's pushing his hands up not out in front in an effort to get as tall as possible at take-off.

Has an "out step" or "pre-jumps".  Takes-off outside his top hand.  This has a number of effects on the jump.  Instead of being pulled off the ground by the pole he jumps thru the pole.  Which in turn allows him to transfer more energy from his run thru the pole.  He's also able to drive his chest thru the pole.  His bottom arm is flexed not locked out. Drives his right knee off the ground,
The out-step and right knee drive and the chest drive setup the big tap swing with his trail leg which enable him to generate more energy thru the pole.
He swings his trail leg until it's horizontal to the ground.
Pulls both legs up tight to the pole in a pike position. This is when he drops his shoulders and pulls his hips up to his hands
The handle of the pole is still bent when he starts his pull-turn.  The pole is also moving to vertical with speed (pole speed)
Here's where Bubka actually reclaims some of the energy that he put in the pole.
