Timothy Christian girls track coach Kevin Hackert might want to consider taking donations for a pole vault pit.
After all, the event certainly played a role in Timothy's six-year reign
as Private School League champion coming to an end at the conference meet

The Trojans (155 points) finished just 16 points behind Illiana Christian (171) in the nine-team field. Illiana was the only team to compete in pole vault and gained a decisive 18 points.
"I jokingly told the girls that this may be the straw that finally gets us in pole vault," Hackert said. "I may push for it, but it's a dangerous sport and it's expensive to get the right equipment. My girls were the first to see that Illiana was the only one to compete in the event, and it was a difficult rub for them to see."
The second-place finish didn't mean the day was unsuccessful for the Trojans by any means.
Alexis Euwema won the 400-meter run (1 minute, 00.23 seconds) and took third in the 200 (26.94), while Leah Bosman captured the 3,200 (13:09.77) and was fourth in the 1,600 (5:59.54). Lindsay VanderBrug took second in the 100 hurdles (16.30) and 300 hurdles (49.85) and teamed with Monica Morrison, Kristen Caruso and Shannon McNeil to get third in the 400 relay (52.51). McNeil finished second (12.97) in a talented 100 field, while Natalie Lebron topped 32 feet for the first time in placing second in the shot put (32-2 1/2). Other seconds were turned in by Kristin VanKampen in the 3,200 (13:20.32), Jessie Easley in the triple jump (33-1) and the 3,200 relay of Elizabeth DeGroot, Natalie Kuick, Samantha Goedeke and Amanda Dykema (10:32.43).
Timothy received third-place finishes from DeGroot (800, 2:33.50), Morrison (discus, 81-10), Rebecca Dirkse (high jump, 4-10), Dirkse, Kuick, Ashley Wierema and Morrison in the 800 relay (1:56.97) and DeGroot, Morrison, Caruso and Goedeke in the 1,600 relay (4:19.93). Dirkse (100 hurdles, 18.58; 300 hurdles, 52.85), Goedeke (800, 2:34.69), Kim Howard (shot put, 31-1), McNeil (high jump, 4-6) and VanderBrug (long jump, 14-11 1/2) all took fourth.
"I'm extremely proud of the girls," Hackert said. "They competed very well. It's always sad to see a streak come to an end. To line up six in a row again won't be easy."
Timothy will now compete at the Class A Lisle
Sectional Friday at
Timothy boys
Paul Jorden contributed to three top-four finishes to help the Timothy Christian boys track team tie for fifth out of 16 Class A teams at the 40th annual Carlin Nalley Invitational Saturday at Benedictine University in Lisle.
Jorden finished second in the 400-meter run (53.07 seconds) and teamed with Rob Stein, Matt Benjamin and Clay Wielard to place third in the 400 relay (45.69) and Dan Woldman, Benjamin and Wielard to get fourth in the 1,600 relay (3:38.93).
